On August 5, 2024, Environmental Testing and Consulting (ETC) conducted water sampling of several faucets throughout the Stockton Metropolitan Airport terminal building. On Monday, August 19, 2024, the test results provided by ETC showed higher than acceptable levels of legionella in the airport terminal water supply and as a result, drinking water at Stockton Metropolitan Airport (SCK) was immediately shut off. Legionella, a naturally occurring bacteria which is found in the environment worldwide, was found during a routine test. Legionella can be the result of stagnant, warm water.

Complementary bottled water stations have been set up in the terminal for the convenience of visitors until testing determines that the water is safe to drink. Airport Management is meeting with Clean Harbors Environmental Services to determine the best course of action to remedy the issue. Airport officials will have an estimation of when the drinking water will be turned back on in the coming days. In the meantime, SCK is working expeditiously to have the terminal building system evaluated, flushed, treated, tested, and returned to normal service.
